Professor David Wright Presents Faculty Saxophone Recital
released: 02/23/04
David Wright, Assistant Professor of Music at West Virginia Wesleyan College, will present a faculty recital open to the public on Sunday, February 29 at 3:00 p.m. in Loar Auditorium on the Wesleyan campus.

The recital will be highlighted by a world premiere entitled Pop Sonata, dedicated by Spiros Mazis, the director of the New Music Conservatory in Athens, Greece. The recital will also include works written by Wright’s own Traverser Saxophone Quartet, a collaboration of four saxophone teachers from colleges and universities in Northern West Virginia and Southern Pennsylvania, and two pieces by two local musicians—Scott Green of Elkins and David Williams of the Charleston area.

The recital has a lot to offer the community according to Wright. “There will be enjoyable worldly music for all audiences and pieces highlighting local artists’ works,” he remarked. “The music in this recital bridges different styles.”

Wright has taught at Wesleyan for four years and currently holds a Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia, a Master of Music Education (M.M.E.) from the University of Southern Mississippi, and is a Doctor of Music Arts (D.M.A.) candidate at the University of Southern Mississippi. Originally from Newark, New York, Wright has performed both classical and jazz saxophone throughout the United States, Honduras, Finland, Estonia, Peru and Russia.

He has studied saxophone with Laurence Wyman, Lee Patrick, and Lawrence Gwozdz. Wright is a member of the Traverser Saxophone Quartet and is a founding member of the Traverser Saxophone Symposium.
