| Greeks Pledge $150,000
Toward Performing Arts Center released: 02/10/04 |
The
Alumni Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils, a group comprised of West
Virginia Wesleyan Greek alumni and current undergraduate Greek students,
pledged $150,000 during their meeting on Feb. 7 to Wesleyan’s soon-to-be-constructed
Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. The money will be designated for the outdoor courtyard/reception area of the new performing arts center and will be recognized as a gift by the nine social fraternities and sororities that constitute the organization (sororities: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, and Zeta Tau Alpha, and fraternities: Alpha Sigma Phi, Chi Phi, Kappa Alpha Order, Theta Chi, and Theta Xi). These independent organizations will be holding fundraisers, accepting donations, and soliciting former alumni to support the pledge. “I think this underscores yet another element of how Greek organizations can be helpful to the College, in addition to providing leadership opportunities and building community relations,” remarked Steve Foster, Wesleyan’s Director of Corporate & Community Relations/Senior Advancement Officer. “There is a genuine excitement for the new community theater scheduled to be built across from the Lynch-Raine Administration Building, and this pledge adds to that excitement.” The pledge is just one of the many highlights in which the Greeks work within the community. They are involved in local activities such as the Heart Walk, charity drives, blood drives, parties for underprivileged children, and many other projects. For more information or if you would like to give a donation to this initiative, please contact Wesleyan Greek Affairs Coordinator John Bohman at 304-473-8073 or bohman_j@wvwc.edu. |
