The Stockert Youth Center (SYC) Dance Team recently competed in the American Dance Awards in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team performed two different routines and took second place in both performances, qualifying them for the National competition in Florida. They also received an overall high-score award for their age group. The dance team is coached by Wesleyan students – Bonner Scholar Jodie Sanborn of Gray, Maine and Jessica Duplisea of Norway.

The team has been working hard since September to prepare for the competition, and encountered some of the best dance teams and studios on the east coast. This was the team’s first competition, which consists of girls aged 10 to 16.

“I am extremely proud of the girls and everything they have accomplished,” states Sanborn. “It has been an honor working with them and I look forward to next season. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank everyone that has helped make this experience possible.”
