Wight To Speak March 4 released: 03/02/04 |
| Dr. Jonathan
B. Wight, associate professor of Economics at the University of Richmond,
will be a featured speaker on the West Virginia Wesleyan campus, Thursday,
March 4. He will present a lecture for the campus and community entitled:
"Life after Enron: A New Business Paradigm." The lecture will
take place in Hyma Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Wight's scholarly work has been acclaimed on many levels, including being awarded the prestigious Distinguished Educator Award at the University of Richmond in 2002. He is the current author of two books, Saving Adam Smith: A Tale of Wealth, Transformation, and Virtue, and The Medical Offset Effect and Public Health Policy with John L. Fiedler. He is working on this third book, Ethics in Economics, which details the ways in which ethical concerns inform economic analysis and decision-making. He has written numerous articles and essays for various publications and written "A Little Adam Smith is a Dangerous Thing," a paper that received the 2001 Paxton Award for Outstanding Paper presented by the International Association of Torch Clubs. Other articles on Smith include "Will the Real of Adam Smith Please Stand Up? Teach Social Economics in the Principles Course" and "The Rise of Adam Smith: Articles and Citations, 1970-1997." Dr. Wight will speak to the Wesleyan faculty in the morning with a lecture entitled "Is Greed Good?" Dr. Wight, born in Washington D. C., spent several years of his youth in Africa and Latin America, and has extensive foreign travel experience and has lived abroad in Africa and Brazil. He holds a B.A from Duke University and a Ph.D. in economics from Vanderbilt University. |
