The West Virginia Wesleyan College Concert Chorale will perform their home concert on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. in Wesley Chapel.
The Concert Chorale will sing the music of the 1st part of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah.” Joshua Stubbs, a senior voice major, will sing the role of Elijah. Other soloists include Jerry Franks, senior music major; Sarah Nale, junior voice major; Katie Oreskovich, sophomore voice major; Jessica Bowman, sophomore music education major; and Jeremiah Smallridge, senior music major. Dr. Melody Meadow, associate professor of music, will accompany the Elijah portions on organ.
The second half of the program will feature a work, “Cloud Burst,” by the young American composer Eric Whitacre and folk music from Russia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Bosnia, and African-American spirituals.
The Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Larry Parsons, professor of music, includes 26 seniors this year, the largest senior group he has led. The Concert Chorale has a long tradition of excellence, having performed numerous major works, including annual performances with the West Virginia Symphony.
Following the home performance, the Concert Chorale will be going on tour throughout the northeast United States. They will leave for the tour, Monday, May 2. They will sing in Franklin, Pa., Bedford, Pa., Metuchen, N.J. and Hackettstown, N.J., Baltimore, Md.
The concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
