Wesleyan Partners With West Virginia University in 3-plus-2 Engineering Program
released: 05/17/05

Students from West Virginia Wesleyan College will be able to earn a bachelor of science degree in engineering from West Virginia University, with an agreement that college officials signed last week.

President William R. Haden, interim Dean Larry R. Parsons, and Professor of Engineering G. Bert Popson traveled to WVU to sign the agreement at WVU’s Morgantown campus to sign the agreement with WVU Provost Gerald Lang and WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Dean Eugene Cilento. The terms of the agreement will become effective July 1.

The agreement will establish a 3-plus-2 program between Wesleyan and WVU. Students will attend three years at Wesleyan and then transfer to WVU for the remainder of their education. Students completing the program will graduate with a bachelor of art degree in physics from Wesleyan and a bachelor of science degree in civil or mechanical engineering from WVU.

Wesleyan President William R. Haden said, “This partnership is important to students at Wesleyan, particularly those who will enroll in the future. We will continue to offer the physics program, but we also can now give students access to a new level of specialization in engineering.”

“We are very excited about this agreement and the opportunities it provides students across the state,” said Warren Myers, CEMR’s associate dean for academic affairs. “WVU is committed to making an engineering education available to all who wish to pursue one and the agreement will further our efforts beyond the established offerings at the Morgantown and regional campuses.”
