West Virginia Wesleyan College Named “Industry of the Year”
released: 03/14/05
West Virginia Wesleyan College was named “Industry of the Year” by the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce at its recent recognition dinner. The successful conclusion of the recent $46.4 million capital campaign, the anticipated construction of the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts, and the $7 million federal grants for the Christopher Hall of Science addition were cited as important community contributions as well as the students who volunteer in local schools, Stockert Youth Center and the community.

The Industry of the Year has been presented by the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce since 1966. Longevity, jobs, and growth over the years are among the criteria considered for selection.

“It may seem strange to think of a college as an ‘industry.’ However, an industry produces a product and we are producing our state’s most important product: educated young men and women,” remarked Wesleyan vice president for advancement Peggy J. Cooning. The College has received this prestigious award previously in 1967 and 1990.
