Vocalist Kathy Kosins to join Jazz Ensemble in Spring Concert
released: 03/24/05 |
 |
Fresh off their annual spring break tour of the northeastern United States, the West Virginia Wesleyan College Jazz Ensemble will present its home spring concert on Thursday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. The Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Wright, recently concluded their 35th annual spring tour which saw them make stops in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ontario, Canada.
The home concert is the highpoint of the performing cycle for the Jazz Ensemble, and a time to recognize the seniors, their accomplishments, and their contributions to the ensemble. This year, the concert will feature jazz vocalist, composer, and educator Kathy Kosins. Kosins stands out among her peers by possessing a rare combination: a richly nuanced voice, technical proficiency, eclectic repertoire, and prodigious talent as a composer. Audiences respond immediately to her music. Directly focused and expressive, with a tinge of soul around the edges, she is a strong performer who delivers a song in smashing fashion.
The Jazz Ensemble members include: saxophonists Rick Hogg of Parkersburg, WV, Brian O’Neill of Patterson, NY, Sarah Helman of Barre, VT, Chris Way of Lumberport, WV, and Bob Ruqus of Wappingers Falls, NY; trumpeters Kim Marinich of Uniontown, PA, Adam Loudin of Buckhannon, David Manspeaker of Elkton, MD, Stacey Cover of Bridgeport, WV, and Chris Garton of Jane Lew, WV; trombonists Andrew Duncan of North Huntingdon, PA, Chris Patterson of Buckhannon, Mike Lambert of Scituate, RI, and Lydia Morris of Romney, WV; and the rhythm section Sean Coughlin of Yorktown, NY, Sara Burnside of Buckhannon, George Costa of Vernon, NJ, Allison Thorp of Parkersburg, WV, Sam Nesbitt of Buckhannon, and Jerry Wright of North Huntingdon, PA.
This concert is free and open to the public.
