The West Virginia Wesleyan College Percussion Ensemble will perform in concert on Wednesday, April 20 in Loar Auditorium at 7 p.m. The concert will feature senior Sara Burnside of Buckhannon, in a multi percussion solo performance, along with varied selections of Latin, Jazz, and Classical music.
“This concert is the culmination of a lot of hard work by these students during the second semester,” remarked director of the Percussion Ensemble and lecturer of music, Robert Baden.
Students participating in the Ensemble performance are Sara Burnside of Buckhannon, WV, George Costa of Vernon, NJ, Sean Coughlin of Yorktown NY, Samantha Dasher of Rupert WV, Tiffany Downs of Wallkill, NY, Jon Fredrick of Bridgeport WV, Dayna Keller of Parkersburg, WV, Duncan Oliver of Maretta, OH, Brooke Rawson of Point Pleasant, WV, R L Shawver of Meadow Bridge, WV, Kate Simmons of Parkville, MD, Bill Steiner of Wharton, NJ, and Heather Traxler of Lewisburg, WV.
Prior to the home concert, the Percussion Ensemble will treat local elementary school students from Academy, Central, French Creek, Tennerton, and Union Elementary to a performance on Thursday, April 14 in Wesley Chapel at 10 a.m.
The West Virginia Wesleyan Percussion Ensemble is one of three performance groups in which percussionist may participate at the College. The Ensemble is composed of music majors, both vocal, and instrumental, as well as any other interested musicians within the Wesleyan Community who may not be majoring in music. It seeks to heighten its performer’s musical sensitivity and technical proficiency through the study of chamber music.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
