West Virginia Wesleyan College adjunct professor Molly Clark has received a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History for the Archaeology Field Methods course offered in May term. Archaeology Field Methods is a hands on class in which students will excavate an archaeology site. All students will be expected to actively attend and participate in the excavation. Additional duties for the fellows will include organization of paper work and some supervisory duties.
Last May Term, students found a late archaic early woodland site dated by approximately 3,000 years ago. The area contained a living floor, post mold structure hut believed to be a large storage pit for Native American Indians.
As part of the funding for the grant, five fellowships for $1,100 are available to each student’s tuition, which is open to the general public.
The course is set to begin May 3 and continue through May 27. Applications are available online. The deadline for submission for the application is April 5 and can be returned through email to clark_m@wvwc.edu or by mail to Dr. Molly Clark, Department of Sociology, West Virginia Wesleyan College, 59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
