West Virginia Wesleyan College student Tracie Wise of Waldorf, MD, was recently selected by the Communication Department to receive the National Communication Student Undergraduate Research Award for the Top Student Paper of 2004 given by the National Communication Association (NCA). Her paper was titled “The Importance of Word Choice in Advertising.”

According to the NCA’s guidelines, Wise’s paper addressed a topic significant to the study of communication, displayed familiarity with existing literature and contributed to that literature, provided evidence of a rigorous and thoughtful inquiry, and used a presentation style appropriate to the topic and to the norms of the communication discipline.

Wise will receive a certificate and letter of recognition from the NCA in addition to her name and the title of her paper being listed on the web site (www.natcomm.org). When asked about receiving the award, the junior public relations and English writing major said, “I am very proud to receive this award. Everyone worked so hard on their projects, and it is an honor to be chosen from such a great field.”
