EDGE Soccer Camp Slated for July 23-27
released: 6/1/06

The West Virginia men’s and women’s soccer teams will hold the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat EDGE soccer camp from Sunday, July 23 to Thursday, July 27. Wesleyan men’s head soccer coach Gavin Donaldson and women’s head coach Glenn Francis will conduct the summer soccer camp for boys and girls ages 10-18.

The fee for the camp is $330. The fee covers lodging in a Wesleyan residence hall and all meals for the week, plus a t-shirt. If a camper would prefer to commute to the camp, the fee will be $200 and will cover lunch, dinner, and a t-shirt.

A special fee of $300 per person is available for teams wishing to come in as a group to the camp. Teams must have a minimum of 12 players attending the camp and a complete roster must accompany the application.
Campers will need to bring a soccer ball (campers can purchase a ball for $30), water bottle, shin guards, and will need to be dressed and have shoes for both outdoor and indoor training activities.

To enhance the development of the ‘complete soccer player,’ the Wesleyan EDGE camp combines training and individual skills with advanced team tactics. The camp is also designed to ensure that players learn how to enjoy the game of soccer.

“The EDGE soccer camp continues a dedication for quality instruction and personal player development,” remarked Donaldson. “We off a springboard for continued soccer growth, and high school players will gain the necessary edge to make their fall club, and ODP teams while our younger campers will gain the skills and tactical awareness necessary for future development.”

soccer campDonaldson has spent the last 15 years at Wesleyan and his teams have compiled a record of 203-89-25, including winning the 1994 NAIA National Championship. His Wesleyan teams have appeared in the national tournament eight times, and won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title 10 times. His teams have consistently been ranked in the Top 25 national polls.

Francis, who just completed his first year as coach of the Lady Bobcats, was an assistant coach under Donaldson. He played four years at Mercyhurst (PA) College where he was a First-Team All-American in 1996, named the Great Lakes Conference Player of the Year in 1996-97, and was also selected as a First Team Great Lakes All-Conference player from 1995-98.
