Men’s Basketball Program to Host Several Boys Summer Camps
released: 5/24/06

The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s basketball program is hosting several basketball camps opportunities for boys this summer. The camps will be held on the Wesleyan campus in the John D. Rockefeller Center.

There will be two one-day high school team Summer Shoot Out sessions where high school varsity teams can play exhibition games against other schools. The first Summer Shoot Out is scheduled for June 17 while the second session is slated for June 24. Both events are during the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission’s live open period for coaching. Teams are guaranteed at least four games during each session. The team rate is $175.
Wesleyan will also host two individual day camps. The first camp will be held from June 26 through June 30 while the second camp will be held from July 17 through July 21. The camps will be broken into two different age groups, one for children ages 4-8 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and the second one for children ages 9-18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The camps will stress the teaching of fundamentals relating to both offense and defense.  The cost will be $55 per participant.

The director of the camps is William (Bill) Lilly, head basketball coach for Wesleyan. Lilly spent three years as Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s basketball program at West Virginia University before joining Wesleyan last summer. In his first season as head coach at Wesleyan, he led the Bobcats to the semi-finals of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. He will be assisted by David Gallop, current assistant Wesleyan basketball coach.

“I am looking forward to hosting my first summer camps here at Wesleyan, and hopefully we will have a solid turn-out,” remarked Lilly. “It was my goal to give local families and players an affordable basketball camp they can attend. I think sometime that week-long camps can begin to wear down a child, but here, we keep it limit we offer four hour segments each day. We can maximize the instruction without the wear and tear of it being a day-long session.” For more information relating to either camp, please call Lilly at (304) 473-8053 or contact him by e-mail at lilly_w@wvwc.edu.
