The summer events schedule begins Sunday, May 14 with the Buckhannon Choral Society’s spring concert. The group, which consists of local community residents, is under the direction of Caroline Dees, professor of music at Wesleyan. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. Wesleyan’s campus will be the site for several West Virginia Strawberry Festival events May 17-21 including the Coronation of the King and Queen, the Quilt Exhibition, the Arts and Crafts Show, the Classic Car Show, various band competitions, and the Gospel Sing. A complete list of the festival’s events at Wesleyan can be found at www.wvwc.edu. The nine-time World Champion Cadet Drum Corps will perform in the Strawberry Festival and then spend three weeks training for upcoming competitions. The Cadets are comprised of 135 members who perform around the world in parades and field shows. Wesleyan will again host a number of church camps and conferences in June and July. The West Virginia United Methodist Church will hold its annual conference on June 7-11 and the United Methodist Summer Youth Celebration will be in Buckhannon on June 19-23. Other visiting church groups include the Southern Baptist Youth Conference and The United Methodist School of Christian Mission. The campus will also be the site of several educational conferences. Energy Express will kick-off the slate with their annual training sessions on June 13-16. They will be followed by the McKelvey Foundation’s leadership camp, the West Virginia Association of Student Council senior and junior high workshops, the International Language Institute, and the Wesleyan Gifted Camp. Wesleyan will also host several basketball and soccer camps during the summer months. The summer conference schedule will conclude with the St. John’s High School pre-season soccer camp, Suncrest Middle School’s band camp, the Miss Teen West Virginia contest, and the West Virginia Square and Round Dancers annual conference. “We always look forward to the summer conference season,” says Alisa Lively, director of Summer Conferences and Campus Activities. “We enjoy renewing friendships with returning conference returnees, meeting new guests, and showing off our beautiful campus.” For more information about Wesleyan’s summer conference program, please contact Lively at (304) 473-8104.
