Concert Band Will Perform Tuesday

Being EarnestWest Virginia Wesleyan College’s Concert Band will perform on Tuesday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. Under the direction of conductor Dr. Susan Radcliff, the program will feature traditional wind band music and seasonal selections. The program will include “A Festival Prelude” by Alfred Reed, “Hoe Down” from the ballet Rodeo by Aaron Copland, “First Suite in Eb” by Gustav Holst, and “The Star of Dreams” by Robert W. Smith.

radcliffDr. Radcliff is currently on the faculty at Wesleyan directing trumpets and the concert band. A native of Buckhannon, Dr. Radcliff returned home to Wesleyan in August of 2005. She began playing trumpet at the age of 10 under the direction of John Puffenbarger of Buckhannon. For the past 27 years, she lived and worked in New York City performing regularly with various orchestras and chamber ensembles in and around the New York area. 

As principal trumpet and soloist, she has performed and recorded with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Solisti New York, Sea Cliff Chamber Players, the Fairfield Orchestra, the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Concordia, Parnassus, American Symphony and EOS.  

She also has vast experience with period instruments, playing natural trumpet with the American Classical Orchestra, Rebel Baroque Orchestra and Clarion Consort.  Her performances on Broadway include The Music Man, Scarlett Pimpernel, My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music and Threepenny Opera

This hour of music will be presented free to the public. All are cordially invited to attend.
