The West Virginia Dance
Company to Perform Friday, April 7 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
The concert incorporates works from three West Virginia choreographers, ranging from the spiritually uplifting “Drifting Through Serenity” by Donald Laney; to Toneto Akers-Toler’s experience of the “Sargasso Sea,” to the quirky, first happenings of a relationship in “Paraguas” by Carli Mareneck. One of the dance numbers, “Pseudochomai,” features an all women’s cast, focusing on the journey of women throughout time and different cultures. The power and dynamics of the movement coupled with the use of fabric delivers a visual intensity that invites the audience emotionally into the experience. “Sketches of Fall,” choreographed in 1991 in celebration of Pearl S. Buck’s 100th birthday, will conclude the concert. “Sketches of Fall” is the reflection of a short story of Ms. Buck’s first autumn experience in West Virginia. Admission is $5 for the public and $3 for students and senior citizens and free with Wesleyan ID. The Wesleyan and Buckhannon communities are encouraged to attend these cultural events. The program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts with additional assistance by a grant from Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program.
