Danceworks XII Presented April 21 & 22

West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present Danceworks XII on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 in Atkinson Auditorium at 8 p.m. each evening.

 Danceworks XII will feature students comprised of Ballet I, III, modern dance classes, and the Wesleyan Dance Company performing numbers choreographed by Bess Park Reynolds, associate professor of theatre and dance and the director of musical theatre and dance, and Linwood Young, a senior musical theatre major from Frederick, MD.

Park Reynolds’ choreographed performances will feature the women of the American Civil War. Inspired by listening to friends of her mother singing Civil War songs, she created the piece in her memory.

The Civil War piece will feature five student actresses who will be dressed in full historic costumes. The actresses are freshman Julia Dennis, music theatre major from Elliott City, MD, senior Janice McCrosite, theatre arts major from Mt. Tabor, NJ, freshman Amanda Seebaugh, theatre major from Washington, WV, senior Lydia Wagner, theatre arts major from Elkins, WV, and sophomore Emmy Wingard, theatre major from McDonald, PA.

Young’s piece entitled “Party Favors.” The dancers are sophomore Katie Coleman, WV, and Adam Gearhart, freshman theatre major, both from Charleston, WV  Erik Keiser, freshman music theatre major from Germantown, MD, Sarah Ogawa, freshman music theatre major from Japan, Jeff Stevens, senior 5-year MBA major from Anmoore, WV, and sophomore Kelly Underwood, business major from Poca, WV. “Party Favors” will feature a variation of tunes by Nine Inch Nails and M.I.
