History Day on Saturday
released: 3/28/06

West Virginia Wesleyan College will be the host site this Saturday for History Day, a statewide competition for elementary, middle, and high school students in north central West Virginia. History Day is part of the HEART (History Education through Activities, Research and Technology) teaching American history grant. Over 100 students from 12 schools will submit research papers, audio-visual documentaries, and standard objects on a variety of projects from blacksmithing to civil war battles. It is the second consecutive year that Wesleyan has hosted the competition.

“I am pleased that our grant allows an opportunity of a History Day in West Virginia, an opportunity already available to students in 40 other states,” said Rob Rupp, director of the program and professor of history at Wesleyan. “History Day allows those interested in history the chance to submit projects locally and then be judged on state level with the possibility of going to national competition. It is an honor that Wesleyan will again be the site for this historic occasion to elevate and reward student’s interest in history.”

The exhibits and judging will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Rockefeller Physical Education Center. The awards ceremony will take place in Wesley Chapel at 2:30 p.m.
