The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball program is hosting a camp for girls ages 8 to 18 from July 10 through July 13. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Wesleyan campus in the John D. Rockefeller Center. 

Aspects of the game that will be covered in the camp include ball-handling, shooting, defensive fundamentals, rebounding, and passing. It will provide an opportunity to enhance individual skills and develop leadership qualities.

The director of the camps is Steve Tierney, head basketball coach of the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat program. Assisting him with the camp will be members of the Lady Bobcat basketball team. Tierney was the women's assistant coach at Wesleyan in 2002 and 2003 prior to being named the head coach and was also an assistant at Fairmont State University for three seasons (2000-02). He also played professionally in New Zealand from 1988 to 1990.

“This is the first time we have had an exclusive camp just for girls in a while,” remarked Tierney. “I think this is an exciting idea. Girls have different needs and goals from a basketball camp than boys. The camp is really going to stress basic skills and fundamentals. I am looking forward to hosting my first summer girl’s camp. It is an affordable camp where the girls are going to get personal instruction and coaching.”
