AmeriCorps VISTA  - AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program that has focused on fighting poverty in the United States for more than 40 years. In collaboration with the Upshur County Family Resource Network, Wesleyan VISTAs work with faculty, staff and students to strengthen the connection between higher education and community engagement.

 

Bonner Scholars Program - The Bonner Scholars

Program seeks to transform the lives of students at

twenty-seven colleges and universities across the United States, as well as their campuses and local communities by providing access to education and

opportunities to serve.

 

Federal Community Service Work Study - This program provides opportunities for Wesleyan students to work on projects with local community agencies in return for

financial assistance for their education.

Greek Affairs - Wesleyan Greek organizations have maintained a strong commitment to service and leadership. Fraternities and sororities engage in service projects on-campus, in the Buckhannon-Upshur community and beyond to include a combined total of 6-7,000 hours completed annually. In addition, each Greek organization has a national philanthropy that the members support. With an average membership that makes up 30% of the campus population, the Greek commitment to service represents a major contribution

in support of projects that benefit an immeasurable number of community causes.

 

Housing and Residence Life - HRL supports service in the residence halls and

Living/Learning houses by encouraging Community Assistants to plan and implement service activities and events.

Institute for Social and Community Research - ISCR is a collaborative academic

effort between faculty and students to research and examine social problems and processes. It works with community partners to collect social scientific data which is analyzed and used to inform public policy and community initiatives.

Recent and current projects include:

  • Community Asset Mapping Project (C.A.M.P.)
  • Community Engagement Course Development Grants
