On Campus Internet Access
Macintosh Systems
WVWC has three main computer labs on campus.
- Christopher Macintosh Lab - 20 Macintosh IIsi (Recommended)
- Library PowerPC Lab - 15 PowerPC Computers (Recommended)
- Christopher HP PC Lab - 20 386/25 PC-Compatible Computers
- Any VT-200 Terminals
All of them offer one great way to surf!
Netscape Navigator! The best net browser!
You may also connect to the VAX and use the Internet utilities available on the VAX.
- Macintosh Computers - Christopher Hall & Library
- The two computer Macintosh labs on campus provides the fastest way to access the internet. The library PowerPCs are top of the line featuring 16 MB of RAM and 180 MB of Hard Drive space.
You may also use those computers to connect to the VAX and use LYNX.
- Please Note:
- All those Macintosh systems are protected. Please save all your files to the "Save Folder" on "Macintosh HD". The files will stay there for 7 days and then deleted.
- Using Netscape
- After the computer is booted up, move your pointer to the color apple on the top left corner of the screen. Click and hold. A list of software will be displayed.
Move your pointer down until Netscape is highlighted. Relese the mouse button to start the navigator.
- Connect to the VAX
- After the computer is booted up, move your pointer to the color apple on the top left corner of the screen. Click and hold. A list of software will be displayed.
Move your pointer down until VAX Connection is highlighted. Relese the mouse button to start the VAX. A blue VAX window will be displayed. You will be asked to enter your username and password.
(If you forget your password, please read this!)
For Example:
username: smith_jd <enter>
password: ********* <enter> (The password will not be displayed when you type it.)
Once the computer has confirmed your username and password, follow these instructions to connect to the internet
.
- File Transfer Protocol
- If you downloaded a software or file to your VAX account, you must transfer it to the Mac to be able to use it. A cute little program "Fetch" is installed on all the macintosh computers. Please following these
instructions to use it:
- Move your mouse pointer to the color apple on the top left corner of the monitor.
- Click and hold. A list of software will be displayed. Move the pointer down to "Fetch" and release mouse button.
- The computer will ask for information about HOST, USERNAME and PASSWORD. Please type:
Host: 192.101.80.250
Username: (Your username)
Password: (Your password)
Directory: (none)
- Press Enter to start FTP
A window will be displayed listing the files you have on your VAX account. To get a file:
- Select the file you want to download by clicking on its name
- Click on "Get File". The computer will prompt for the directory to download the file to. Please click on "Desktop" and select
the "Save Folder" on "Macintosh HD".
- Click on "OK" to start downloading. The software will automatically select the tranfer mode to accomodate binary or ascii transfer.
- Follow the same procedure to download more files. The computer will automatically decode any compressed files.
- Click on "Close Connection" to disconnect from the VAX when you finish.
