Rare Book Room Use

Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library Room 210, the Rare Book Room of West Virginia Wesleyan College, holds three collections of non-circulating items:

RARE BOOK COLLECTION, indicated by the symbol ** preceding the call number. These are books set aside from the general collection because of their rarity, fragility, research value, fine bindings, or other special characteristics.

WEST VIRGINIA COLLECTION, with * before the call number. These are books about West Virginia, or books by West Virginian writers. Many, but not all, are available in duplicate copies kept in the general collection.

METHODIST COLLECTION, currently not listed in our catalog. These are selected items from the Archives of the West Virginia United Methodist Church.

Scholars may browse the Rare Book Room with the approval of the Director of Library Services, Reference Librarian, or the Cataloger. Approval may be granted on an appointment-only basis.

Patrons who wish to consult specific Rare Book Room items may request titles at the Circulation desk. Staff members will retrieve materials for use in the Library. ID is required from all who use Rare Book Room items. Rare Book Room materials will be checked out upon presentation of identification for in-library use only. The Library reserves the right to limit use of items for preservation or security purposes.
