What are Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery?

Interlibrary loan is a service provided to WVWC patrons, allowing them access to research materials held by other libraries. Through interlibrary loan, Wesleyan library patrons have the ability to use the collections of other libraries, around the state and around the country. Items that can be obtained on interlibrary loan include books, photocopies of journal articles, videoes, microfilm, and microfiche. Document delivery is a service through which the library obtains photocopies or electronic copies of journal articles from other libraries or document delivery services that are not availble in the WVWC library.

How do I request an Interlibrary Loan?

To request an item on interlibrary loan, simply fill out an ILL form, found through the library catalog. You may also e-mail your request directly to ill@wvwc.edu. Remember, the more information you submit with your ILL request, the easier it will be to fill your request, and the sooner you will receive the material. Always include a Need Before Date with your ILL request!!!

How much will I be charged for an Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan is a service provided to all Wesleyan students, faculty, and staff. No charges are incurred when you request an ILL item. The library absorbs all associated borrowing and postage costs.

How long will it take to fill my ILL request?

Book loans and most article photocopies are sent through the postal service, so delivery may be slow. Also, lending libraries vary in the time needed to process ILL requests. Average time to receive journal articles is 4 - 7 working days. Average time to receive book loans is 10-14 working days. Allow plenty of time to receive the item when you submit your ILL request!!!
