American Scholar Winners Awarded

Samara Kendrick, from Clarksburg, WV and a student of Liberty High School, was named West Virginia Wesleyan’s seventh annual American Scholar during an awards luncheon today on the College’s campus.

Kendrick, who plans to study nursing, received a four-year tuition, room, and board scholarship from the College.

“I am so relieved,” stated Kendrick.  “Now I do not have to worry about how I am going to pay for college.  When I was looking at schools after eighth grade, Wesleyan stood out to me because it was faith-based; it appealed to me.  I am definitely going to put this scholarship to good use.”

First runner-up was awarded to Andrea Heater, from Salem, WV.  Heater was awarded a four-year $5,000 scholarship.  A senior at Liberty High School, she plans to study biology.

Second runner-up was named to Christopher Gum, from Camden, WV.  Gum was awarded a four-year $2,500 scholarship to the College.  A senior at Lewis County High School, he plans to major in biology major with the aspiration of completing the pre-med or pre-pharmacy tracks.

Kendrick joins past winners Kathyrn Turner ’11 of Liberty High School, Jennifer Collins ’12 of Ritchie County High School, Marissa Pulice of Fairmont Senior High School; Steven White of Tygart Valley High School; Rachel Marteney of Buckhannon-Upshur High School; and Shane Yeater of Doddridge County High School. The American Scholar program is sponsored by West Virginia Wesleyan College, in conjunction with West Virginia Radio Corporation, Magic 106.5, and the law firm Colombo & Stuhr, PLLC.
