West Virginia Scholar Competition Now Open
Monday, February 4th, 2013
Are you the next West Virginia Scholar? For the fifth year running, one lucky high school junior has the opportunity to win four years of paid tuition and fees at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
To qualify, students must live in West Virginia, be enrolled in the 11th grade, and be between the ages of 16 and 19. Applications are being accepted now through April 7, 2013. The application for the West Virginia Scholar award is available only at www.wvmetronews.com.
The West Virginia Scholar will receive a four-year scholarship — an estimated total value of $125,000 — for undergraduate study including tuition, fees, room, and board at West Virginia Wesleyan. To be eligible to receive the award, the winning scholar must enroll in the fall 2014 semester with the award earned for four consecutive years.
The second place winner will receive a four-year $5,000 scholarship and third prize is a four-year $2,500 scholarship to the College beginning with the 2014 fall semester. The West Virginia Scholar awards can be combined with other institutional academic scholarships. However, please note that West Virginia Wesleyan has strict maximum ceilings when combining any other institutional scholarship and financial aid awards.
The West Virginia Scholar prize must be accepted as awarded and is non-transferable. The estimated value of the scholarship cannot be awarded in monetary payments.
Sponsors for this opportunity include MVB Bank, MetroNews, West Virginia Wesleyan College and Culpepper Scholar Award at Wesleyan, Brickstreet Insurance, Friends of Coal, West Virginia Forestry Association, and West Virginia Education Association.
