Thursday, March 28th, 2013
West Virginia Campus Compact, a coalition of 28 college and universities that encourages and supports community engagement in higher education, honored West Virginia Wesleyan College with multiple awards at its annual statewide conference.
Peter Galarneau, assistant professor of communication and chair department, was honored as a finalist for the LINK Partnership Award. The award honors outstanding community service learning partnerships that are grantees of West Virginia Campus Compact’s LINK program.
Galarneau’s project, “Witnessing the Creative Process: An Artist’s Studio Tour,” places students with the Buckhannon Main Street Arts Collaborative to create “day in the life” videos which focus on local artists.
West Virginia Wesleyan College was also given campus-wide honors as the winner of the 2013 West Virginia Campus Compact Engaged Campus Award: 4 Year Campus. The award recognizes campus-wide efforts to layer engagement with the community throughout the student experience.
West Virginia Wesleyan College President Pamela Balch; Professor Galarneau; West Virginia Wesleyan Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development staff including Director LeeAnn Brown, Katie Loudin, and Jessica Wagner; and West Virginia Wesleyan Student Advisory Board members Justin Frye and Briana Shockey attended the Awards Luncheon and accepted the awards.
