Spring Choral Concert to be held April 21

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Spring choral concert will take place on Sunday, April 21 at 3 p.m. in Wesley Chapel on the College’s Buckhannon campus.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana serves as the centerpiece for this concert, featuring Wesleyan’s Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum and Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. R. Daniel Hughes and Robert Baden.  Eighty additional singers from two renowned West Virginia high school choral programs will also participate: Morgantown’s University High School and Ona’s Cabell Midland High School, Barry Kolar and Edwin Harkless, directors respectively.  The Chanticleer Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Sarah Carr Parsons, will also perform as a part of this event.

The concert also features soprano Wesleyan faculty members Dr. Mandy Spivak and tenor Dr. Nicholas Perna, as well as heldentenor Greg Frens, and pianists Whitney Ballard and Marie Hatfield Mallory.

Prior to the performance of Orff’s popular classic, several additional works will be performed by the two high school ensembles and Wesleyan’s own Concentus Vocum, featuring pianist and sophomore music major Kayoko Funada and works by Joseph Byrd, Eric Whitacre and others.

The event is free and open to the public.
