McKinney to Speak at Homecoming Chapel Service

Sarah Hanko McKinney ’98 will serve as the featured guest speaker at West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Homecoming chapel service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 13.
Upon graduation from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BA in Christian Education, McKinney began work in full-time lay ministry as Director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church, Brevard, NC. She continued her lay ministry at North Morganton UMC and First UMC, N. Wilkesboro. In 2001, McKinney earned a Master’s in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University.
McKinney is currently at Glencoe UMC in Summerfield, NC, where she assists with the youth and children’s ministry, edits the church bulletin and newsletter, and plays the hammered dulcimer. As a member of the Western North Carolina Conference, she serves on the steering team for the Office of Christian Unity and Interreligious Relationships. She has served as a delegate to two General Conferences, three Southern Jurisdiction Conferences, and to the 2011 British Methodist Conference.
“Sarah’s life and learning as a student at Wesleyan continues to manifest itself in her leadership throughout the Church, and her clear commitment to family and others,” stated Dean of the Chapel Angela Gay Kinkead. “We are excited to have her share God’s Word this Homecoming.”
McKinney is married to Ed, a United Methodist elder who is currently serving at Glencoe UMC with Sarah. They have three children.
