Thursday, November 21st, 2013
West Virginia Wesleyan College has $19,500 in available West Virginia Tax credits through the Neighborhood Investment Program. The College was awarded $35,000 in tax credits for its West Virginia Opportunity Scholarship this fall. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students attending Wesleyan from Barbour, Braxton, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Lewis, McDowell, Mercer, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker, Upshur, Webster, and Wyoming Counties who are at or below 125% of the federal poverty level.
“This is a wonderful scholarship program because it helps Wesleyan’s most deserving students,” said Bob Skinner ’75, vice president for advancement. “Individuals who make a donation of $500 or more Wesleyan’s West Virginia Opportunity Scholarship can be entitled to both a federal tax charitable deduction and West Virginia Tax credits.”
Tax credits are awarded at a rate of 50%. A $1,000 donation for example will result in tax credits of $500. The deadline to reserve tax credits is March 1 and can be made by calling the College’s Advancement Office at 304-473-8600.
