Spring Arts Alive! Events Announced

West Virginia Wesleyan College will offer a variety of Arts Alive! events during the spring semester, including the fourth consecutive year featuring Mountain Stage. All events are open to the public.
Opening the season is the art department showcasing a video programme from the New Media Caucus. The exhibit runs from January 21 through February 6 in Sleeth Gallery with the opening reception on January 23 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Journey to Africa with the performance of Jabali Afrika on February 6 in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Jabali Afrika, from east Africa’s Kenya, is a multi-faceted group with its own unique mixture of fusion and African rhythms. There is an admission fee for this event.
On March 11 through 20, the Colbert Bump will exhibit in Sleeth Gallery. A fundraising auction will be held during this exhibit. The closing is scheduled for March 20 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
An Inaugural Artist-in-Residence Exhibition will feature Tonja Torgerson, Wesleyan’s artist-in-residence, with her recent 2013 works. The show opens from March 25 to April 17 with the opening reception held on March 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. An artist talk will follow.
The Department of Theatre & Dance will present the musical Little Shop of Horrors on March 27-29 in the Culpepper Auditorium of the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. The show opens each night at 8 p.m., plus a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and $3 with Wesleyan ID.
Mountain Stage returns to the Culpepper Auditorium on April 6 at 7 p.m. The performers will be announced later in the semester. Tickets will be available at the Office of Campus Life.
Art students will be gearing up for graduation by displaying their senior projects from April 21 – 28. The Senior Exhibition 01 will feature the opening on April 29 from 4:30-6 p.m. Artist talks to follow at 6 p.m.
The Concert Band and Brass Ensemble will present their annual spring concert on April 22 in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.
On April 23, the Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Bob Baden, will presents its concert in Loar Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
The Concentus Vocum, Concert Chorale, and Wesleyan Singers will perform Honor and Glory April 27 in Wesley Chapel at 3 p.m. The performance will feature Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria. The ensemble is under the director of conductor R. Daniel Hughes.
The second installation of the senior showing is set for May 1- 9 in Sleeth Gallery. The Senior Exhibition 02 will close on May 9 from 1-2:30 p.m. Artist talk will be held on Monday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. (location TBA)
Completing the Arts Alive! series is the Jazz Ensembles with their concert on May 2 in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m.
