Social Justice Week Activities Planned

West Virginia Wesleyan College is gearing up for Social Justice Week 2014 to be held March 24-28, 2014.  Sponsored by the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development, the week is dedicated to education, empowerment, and activism.  By focusing on a different issue every day, the program strives to educate Wesleyan students, faculty, and the Buckhannon community about forms of injustice that occur locally and globally.  The theme this year is taking action and is based on the Charles M. Blow quotation, “There is no wrong time to do the right thing.”

March 24, Poverty Day- Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Event, Side Dining Hall, 4:30 p.m.; Powderpuff Against Poverty Football Game, Intramural Field, 7:30 p.m.

March 25, Gender Day- Immigration Chapel Service, Meditation Chapel, 11 a.m.;  Be Hope to Her, Wesley Chapel stairs, 4 p.m.; Mara Keisling speaks about Gender Issues, Social Hall, 7 p.m.

March 26, Health Day- Choral Concert, Wesley Chapel, 5 p.m.; Jump Rope for Heart, Social Hall, 6 p.m.

March 27, Modern Day Slavery- End Slavery Petition, Cafeteria, 11 a.m.; Stand for Freedom, Wesley Chapel stairs and Prayer Room, 6 p.m.

March 28, Peace Day- I Scream for Freedom, Wesley Chapel stairs, 12 noon; Peace Luminaries, Wesley Chapel stairs, 8:30 p.m.
