The Learning Center
West Virginia Wesleyan College provides excellent support programs to students with diagnosed learning disabilities, attention disorders, and other special needs.
Overview
- Centralized and comprehensive programming for students with diagnosed learning disabilities and other special needs
- Individually structured Foundational Program which provides one-on-one academic and accommodation strategy guidance through professional staff who have graduate degrees in Education, Educational Psychology, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, and Reading
- The Mentor Advantage Program – Transition and Persistence Phases (fee-based)
- Individually structured hours of professional tutoring through the Mentor Advantage Program (fee-based)
- Utilization of the Lindamood-Bell ® Approach to Learning (fee-based)
- Math and Algebra Practica to develop skills for college level math
- Assistive Technology Lab with state-of-the-art software opened during the evenings (except for Fridays and weekends)
- Test and Study Lab
- Support for the transition to college level academics
- Exploration of individual factors influencing motivation
- Assistance with academic goal setting, self-monitoring, and organization skills
- Walk-in Peer Tutoring System certified by the College Reading and Learning Association which serves the entire campus
