Life Beyond Wesleyan -
Employment and Graduate School

Seniors seem to quickly approach the end of what had once seemed endless - classes and semesters, friends and roommates, social activities and campus life, summer jobs and internships. Commencement is a fact of life. And it's a fact that points straight at every graduate's first job - the job of finding the "right" employment position or grad school program. For some, the tools-of-the-trade might refer to the newest graphic design software or a state-of-the-art analog console. For the senior approaching graduation, the best tools-of-the-trade are a correct and effective resume and its companion piece, a literate and persuasive cover letter. In addition, every senior needs to develop a set of interview/self-presentation skills that will demonstrate to an employer or grad school admission committee that this candidate knows his or her own strengths and assets, as well as the demands of the targeted marketplace niche, and is able to "sell" the idea of a "good fit". The Model Job Search Plan is not just for seniors. Begin as early as freshman year to use the outline below to progress toward your goal. The Plan is equally useful for internship or summer job search. Come to the Academic & Career Center for assistance, or follow the links we have provided to help make the transition from undergrad to professional a natural and exciting dimension of your college career.
