[Q1] Where did you study?
[A] Through Wesleyan's exchange program with several institutions in No. Ireland, I was accepted to study at the Jordanstown campus of the University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
[Q2] What was your non-academic life abroad like?
[A] I did quite a bit of traveling within the UK. A few friends from the Republic of Ireland guided me through Dublin. I also toured Glascow and Edinburough in Scotland. We saw the sights in London, England. Beyond the cities, No. Ireland's rural areas were especially breathtaking.
Immersion in a new culture truly changed my perspective on American culture. It also changed the way that I now consider other cultures I have already experienced, and will no doubt affect the way I will think about those I have not yet encountered.
[Q3] What was the greatest thing about the semester abroad?
[A] The greatest thing about the semester abroad was the people I met. I’ll keep in touch with friends I made in Belfast for years to come. They showed me hidden beauties of the No. Irish countryside that most tourists don’t see, and introduced me to an 'insider's' experience of the vibrancy of city life in Belfast. It was the people who made my semester abroad truly wonderful and unique.
[Q4] Did your experience in No. Ireland impact your future?
[A] Studying in Belfast did significantly affect my plans for the future. Studies at Jordanstown exposed me to a ‘globalistic’ perspective that reinforced previous interests in International Law and International Relations. Now they are a field I clearly envision as the foundation of my professional future.
