Additional Internship Opportunities
Judith Herndon Legislative Fellows Program
This
WV legislative internship enables a student to work directly with
a legislator in either the Senate or the House of Delegates. Beginning
in January, the intern works the 60-day session with the assigned
legislator. In addition to the experience acquired through the program,
the student earns 12 semester credit hours. The deadline for the
application is mid-October and requirements include completion of
60 undergraduate hours, submission of three letters of recommendation,
a transcript and a written essay on a specified topic. Herndon Legislative
interns perform research and are responsible for various staff functions.
In addition to job-related responsibilities, participants develop
an understanding of the politics of legislation, legislative research,
bill drafting, the role and function of committees and the executive-legislative
liaison. Contact Dr. Rob Rupp, Department Chair of History/Political
Science for more information.
Frasure-Singleton Internship
This competitive
legislative internship provides the opportunity for a Wesleyan student
to complete a one-week educational experience observing the actions
of a lawmaking body. The student will be assigned to a specific
senator or delegate who will guide the intern throughout the legislative
process. The student may be asked to attend specific committee meetings,
to view floor sessions, and to aid their supervisor with research
projects or constituent requests. The student must be a full-time
sophomore, junior or senior who has completed at least one course
in government or political science. Contact Dr. Rob Rupp, Department
Chair of History/Political Science for more information.
FBI Computer Science/Computer Information
Science Fellow
Wesleyan has
an ongoing internship with the Clarksburg unit of the Federal Bureau
of Investigations for a student majoring in computer science or
computer information science. A committee composed of Wesleyan faculty
and staff selects our recommended candidates; final selection is
determined by the F.B.I. Each student will be required to undergo
a complete background check that will result in an F.B. I. Security
Clearance. The internship can range from one semester up to two
years and is unpaid.
