Who is eligible to study abroad?
A student must have completed the first semester of the sophomore year and have a 2.5 gpa to be allowed to apply, although individual programs may require a higher gpa.

Can any student who meets those criteria study abroad?
You must meet with your academic advisor to ensure that the off-campus semester would not negatively impact your ability to graduate as planned.

Where can you go to study abroad?
There are at least 2500 accredited programs, which are located in almost every geographic location in the world. A good starting point is IIE Passport, the single most complete and comprehensive web resource on study aboard. Also, studyabroad.com, the #1 on-line resource for study abroad information, is a comprehensive site that provides information on cultural issues, legalities, security, etc.

How do I start?
Call the Academic & Career Center at ext. 8440 and request an appointment to discuss study abroad.

Will I be able to take courses in my major?
Although not every program offers courses in every major, there are always many choices to evaluate.

Are internships available abroad?
An increasing number of foreign study programs offer this option. However, if your major requires a professionally supervised experience with specific learning objectives, you are responsible for ensuring that the international internship would satisfy WVWC graduation requirements.

When should I begin looking?
Beginning your research early in the semester preceding the semester of application would provide a comfortable time frame that allows for changing your mind without being stressed by deadlines or rushed through the application process.

How many Wesleyan students study abroad each year?
About 10 students study abroad each year (fall and spring semesters). However, about 30 students come to the Academic & Career Center to begin the planning process each year. Those who do not study abroad are not less qualified or less motivated, just less organized!
