Membership in Omicron Delta Kappa is as much an obligation and responsibility in leadership as it is a mark of highest distinction and honor. Membership is awarded to undergraduate junior and senior students; to graduate students; to faculty, staff, administration and alumni; and to persons qualifying for membership “honoris causa.” Student membership candidates must rank in the upper 25 percent in scholarship of their school or college and must show leadership in several the five phases of campus life:

Scholarship

Athletics

Campus or Community Service (Social and Religious Activities, Campus Government)

Journalism, Speech, and the Mass Media and

Creative and Performing Arts.

An individual achieving distinction in his or her chosen profession or rendering outstanding service through leadership may be elected to honorary membership (honoris causa).

If you are eligible (as a junior or senior with standing in the top twenty five percent of your class), you should be contacted through campus mail with an application to apply for membership in this prestigious honorary within the first quarter of the semester. Within one week of receiving your information, all applications should be submitted and the process of consideration will begin. Students who are not accepted are encouraged to apply again in subsequent semesters, as they remain eligible. The process of acceptance is a challenging one, and all nominees should be proud of their academic scholarship.

Initiation is held late in the semester, in Wesleyan’s Meditation Chapel, and acceptance letters will include the specific date and time for initiation.

To help in the process of application, the West Virginia Wesleyan College Circle has created an activity list, from which applicants can draw from to help create the most comprehensive and thorough statement of their involvement in leadership on campus.
