The Student Success Center at West Virginia Wesleyan College will host their annual internship fair on Thursday, October 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first floor of the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library on the Buckhannon campus.
The internship fair is a perfect way for students to meet alumni and community partners who have internships available over the span of the next academic year. A LinkedIn photo booth will also be available for students who want a professional headshot taken to display on their social media sites or to include in internship applications.
The internship fair will feature three presentations in the Library, room 105. The first presentation at 11 a.m. is by Wesleyan reference librarian Beth Rogers. She will be presenting on how to navigate Wesleyan’s new campus resource, “Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center.” This resource includes career advice blogs, tips on professional development, job and internship search resources, and more.
The second presentation, Important Interview Skills Tips, will be held at 11:30 a.m. by the Director of Career Services, Barbara Morrissette. The third presentation at 12:30 p.m. is presented by Wesleyan’s Instructional Technology Specialist, Traci Probst. She will give a general overview on how to develop a professional portfolio on Wix for free.
As part of this endeavor, the new Clothes for Pros closet will be hosting an Open House on Wednesday, October 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students may meet a staff member in Kresge Hall for a walk-through of the space to select a professional ensemble to wear for the internship fair.
By the end of the internship fair, students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge or professional attire and persona, determine internships that are best-suited for their abilities, practice a well-versed professional summary to share with potential internship hosts, and cultivate acquaintances and networks to advance internship and career opportunities.
