West Virginia Wesleyan College will welcome another talented new student cohort for Orientation activities on August 18. The expected class of over 350 undergraduate students will build on the College’s tradition of attracting a geographically diverse and involved student body. Students will hale from 23 states and 19 foreign countries with an average GPA of 3.5. The class includes 61 creative and performing artists and over 20 community service scholars along with athletes in all of Wesleyan’s NCAA division II programs. Nearly half of the West Virginia students enrolling will be receiving the West Virginia Promise Scholarship. Ninety-two of the total students have a 4.0 GPA or greater while 204 have a 3.5 GPA or greater.
“We are extremely excited to welcome students from so many parts of the country and the World to our Home among the Hills,” remarked John Waltz, vice president for enrollment management. From athletics and creative arts to service and leadership—this class is as involved as any in recent memory and the students are well-prepared for collegiate success. They are poised to be leaders and to make a difference in our community. I am thankful for the work of the enrollment team and of our faculty and staff in helping these students to find WVWC. We can’t wait to see what these young leaders accomplish.”
Orientation activities for families include the Bobcat Street Fair featuring local businesses and vendors, picnics with President Dr. Joel Thierstein, faculty, alumni, and current student leaders, registration and new student seminar activities, an outdoor movie, and a formal Convocation welcoming the class to the Wesleyan community.
