Rev. Dr. Joseph Kenaston ’81 will deliver the sermon “A Therefore Moment” at West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Baccalaureate Ceremony on Friday, May 3 at 5:00 p.m. in Wesley Chapel.

Dr. Kenaston is the district superintendent of the Southern District and dean of the cabinet for the West Virginia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Previously, he served as the senior pastor at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church (UMC) in Lewisburg, WV from 2005–2013; senior pastor at Wayside UMC in Vienna, WV from 1992–2005; associate pastor at the Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston, WV from 1987–1992; pastor at Stretford and Urmston Methodist Circuit in Manchester, England from 1984–1987; and a student associate pastor at Hazel Crest Community Church, United Methodist in Hazel Crest, IL from 1982–1984.

Dr. Kenaston earned a doctor of divinity from Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in 2000, a master of divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, in 1984; and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1981.

While a student at West Virginia Wesleyan, he served as class president during three of his four years and community council president. He was also a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. A member of Wesleyan’s Board of Trustees, he served on a number of committees and chaired the Spiritual Life Task Council.

Dr. Kenaston and his wife Judi Modlin Kenaston reside in Beckley. They have three grown children and one grandson.
