Logan Lindsey, marching band director at West Virginia Wesleyan College announces that the Bobcat Marching Band will be performing in the 2019 Mountain State Forest Festival Grand Feature Parade which begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 in Elkins.
This will be the first time the new Bobcat Marching Band will be attending the Forest Festival since the group was reinstated in 2014 after a 40-year hiatus. The Forest Festival is also the first parade the group will march in since returning to the Wesleyan campus. In addition, the Bobcat Marching Band has the honor of performing a 30-minute music presentation as the feature band during the marching competition for the Forest Festival that evening at Winer Field.
In its sixth season, the band is a 96-member marching group includes brass and wind instruments, drumline, color guard (flags) and twirlers. The group has made football game day on the Wesleyan campus into an enthusiastic array of music and spirit for students, families, and community members.
“We are very excited about expanding the outreach of the marching band,” said Lindsey. “We will also be soon announcing a special concert in November in which our new uniforms will be unveiled and we will march in uniform for the first time in the 2020 West Virginia Strawberry Festival.”
Wesleyan’s music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The department features a number of groups including jazz ensembles, the Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and the marching band.
