Wesleyan to host Family Weekend September 27-29

Sep 23, 2019

West Virginia Wesleyan College will host its annual Family Weekend on September 27-29 for families of Wesleyan students to experience the campus and community through a wide variety of engaging and fun activities, from sporting events to performing arts. Throughout the weekend, parents and families will have an opportunity to explore the campus, venture into Buckhannon, support many of its athletic teams, and meet other families and learn about their son’s or daughter’s home away from home.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. in the newly renovated Library on Friday until 6 p.m. and reopens 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Join us for meals on campus or try out Buckhannon’s great local restaurants. In addition, on both Friday and Saturday, the Wesleyan theater department students will be showcased in a murder mystery dinner theatre production, “The Case of the Dueling Hypnotists,” at the Opera House in downtown Buckhannon. Also, Buckhannon’s Fall Fest will be taking place all weekend, featuring a full schedule of events including carnival, wagon rides, live music, and dancing.

On Saturday, families have several activities available, including a Summer Experiences Student Showcase, screen printing free t-shirts, and a tailgate lunch before the home football game against Wheeling University. Later in the day, President Joel Theirstein will host Desserts on the Plaza 6:30–7:30 p.m. followed by the annual Wesleyan’s Got Talent competition in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m.

Families are invited to participate in a couple of our favorite community service initiatives, “Bobcats for Books” and “Spread the Love.” Families able to donate new or gently used children’s books to fill the county’s Little Free Libraries or a jar or two of peanut butter to support local food pantries may do so at the registration desk. Need to add some Wesleyan wardrobe apparel, the Bobcat Den will be open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Family Weekend will close out with brunch at 11 a.m.– 1 p.m. on Sunday in the French A. See Dining Center. Later in the day, cheer on the men’s soccer team as they host West Liberty University at 7 p.m. at Culpepper Soccer Field.
