Wesleyan Tabs Ethan Hayes to Lead eSports Program

Jul 29, 2020

West Virginia Wesleyan College has named Ethan Hayes as its new Head Coach of eSports. Ethan served as the Vice President of Events, and later as President, for Full Sail University’s eSports program in Winter Park, FL. He has also worked with NBA 2K the Ticket, TESPA, Blizzard Entertainment, and Texas Robogistics. Ethan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Game Design from Full Sail University.

In 2018, West Virginia Wesleyan became the first college in the state of West Virginia to offer scholarships for varsity-level eSports competition. eSports has become an exciting new entity in the college landscape, as six years after the first competitive program opened on a college campus, the National Association of Collegiate eSports now recognizes 181 member institutions.

This hire continues a state of growth for WVWC eSports, as VP John Waltz announced “We are thrilled to welcome Ethan Hayes as Head Coach for our growing eSports program.  After successfully launching the first program in the State, welcoming two classes of competitors, and building out our state-of-the-art arena space, we feel Ethan will propel our program to the next level with his expertise and enthusiasm.”

Equally as excited about his new role, Ethan Hayes shares his enthusiasm as he takes over the program, saying “My visit to Wesleyan showed me not only just a beautiful college with a rich history and quite a view, but a college and a city that embraces eSports and has a vision for its growth. As the next eSports coach of West Virginia Wesleyan College, I am excited to keep reminding everyone that we are not just the first, but also the greatest eSports program in West Virginia.”
