Title III Endowment Challenge
In 2014, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Wesleyan at $10 million Title III grant under the Strengthening Institutions Program. The purpose of the grant is to improve strategies for student engagement and success which includes enrollment, retention, persistence, and graduation rates for Wesleyan students, especially those who are first-generation college students and/or Federal Pell Grant recipients. The award allows Wesleyan to improve student success through additional staff and programs and will help fund the renovation of classrooms and laboratories.
A key component of the grant is a $2 million dollar-for-dollar match by the federal government, which will add $4 million in total to the College’s endowment. The Challenge expires September 30, 2019 and we are now less than $500,000 away from reaching the $2 million goal.
