The Director of Alumni Affairs reports to the Chief Institutional Advancement and Development Officer. Under supervision, the director will develop a comprehensive alumni relations program involving events, volunteers, alumni communication strategy, and outreach initiatives, with a focus on developing means by which to engage alumni and cultivate donor relations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates and evaluates programs and projects to promote alumni relations and programs designed to connect alumni to the campus community through campus partnerships with academic affairs, student development, athletics and enrollment management.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of donors and donor prospects
  • Plans, coordinates and attends events, meetings and other activities including alumni recognitions, receptions, homecoming, and reunions.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and stewards support and giving from alumni and constituents to develop increased philanthropic opportunities.
  • Provides management and support of the efforts to maintain key databases that support the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Collaborates with other members of the development office staff on programs which engage alumni through multiple channels.
  • Provides leadership for the publication of alumni newsletters and magazines in conjunction with the marketing and communications team.
  • Expands West Virginia Wesleyan’s engagement with key alumni stakeholders and groups.
  • Partners with members of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations to ensure that we are not duplicating efforts or causing donor communication and invitation fatigue.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate a range of special events.
  • Ability to design and write promotional material.
  • Ability to plan and implement promotional programs.
  • Ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers.
  • Ability to develop, prepare, and deliver effective education programs, seminars and workshops relating to Alumni Relations.
  • Ability to develop alumni chapters.
  • Strong database management skills and ability to produce detailed reports.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
