Director of Athletic Bands

West Virginia Wesleyan College invites applications for the position of Director of Athletic Bands. In 2014, the College, which is a residential campus home to approximately 1,100 undergraduate students, revived its marching band, which today numbers 100 members. Since its revival, the Band has been outfitted with sufficient equipment and, most recently, new uniforms. The band is made up of both music majors and non-majors. All members are excellent musicians

We seek a director who is a superior musician who can work with a wide range of stakeholders, including a small but excellent music department and faculty, to continue to build upon the enviable success we have enjoyed in recent years

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a 12-month, staff position, reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management. The successful candidate is responsible for planning and administering all aspects of the Athletic Bands program, including: Recruiting and retaining qualified students with specified recruit and roster goals; working collaboratively with the music department and the office of Admission; developing the band during scheduled practices and competitions; maintaining responsibility for expense control with all program expenditures; mentoring band members in their academic performance to assure timely progress toward degree completion and graduation; developing a schedule for practice and performances; travel to key WV high schools to represent the Creative Arts and Marching Band; oversight and execution of performances for fall sporting contests and indoor winter athletic events.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing and growing a collegiate band, plus a Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience. Effective verbal and written communication skills; sound interpersonal skills in dealing with students, college personnel and members of the off-campus community; ability to operate a collegiate band program within budget parameters.
