Utility Craft/Water Treatment Specialist

West Virginia Wesleyan College is seeking a full-time, 12-month, Utility Craft/Water Treatment Specialist.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Perform daily preventive and corrective maintenance for all utility craft duties
  • Monitor and regulate chemical levels in steam, heating water, chilled water and condenser water systems.
  • The essential and marginal functions include sampling and testing water, maintaining chemical pumps and blow down units, monitoring chemical and reagent inventories to ensure adequate supplies are available when needed and transport chemical stock to end use locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrative personnel of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and understand oral and written communications.
  • One year certification from accredited college or technical school with two years on the job experience with a bona fide contractor dealing with water treatment or two years on the job experience within the utility craft at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and all utility craft applications and procedures and be able to read schematics and blue prints.
  • Training and / or certification in boiler operation / maintenance, chillers, and condenser water systems.
  • Valid driver’s license

Reports To:

  • Maintenance Supervisor and Physical Plant Director.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs., climb ladders, manipulate and use power/ hand tools, and visually and manually inspect work as being performed on campus as needed.
  • Exposure to hot and cold climate and moderate exposure to dusty, dirty environments.
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Terms of Employment:

  • As determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and West Virginia Wesleyan College.


  • Performance of this position will be evaluated annually.
