WVWC welcomes interested candidate to become part of the Bobcat Strength & Conditioning team and gain College Coaching experience! This position will play a crucial part in supporting our athletes’ physical development, injury prevention, and overall performance enhancement. With the increasing demand for specialized training and conditioning, having a dedicated professional in this capacity will elevate our program and contribute significantly to our athletes’ success.
The Graduate Strength and Conditioning Assistant will work closely with our Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to design, implement, and monitor individualized training programs for our student-athletes. This position will involve hands-on work in the weight room, on-field/court, and in the sports medicine facility to ensure that athletes are maximizing their potential while minimizing the risk of injury.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to specific needs of each sport and individual athlete.
- Conduct regular fitness assessments to track athletes’ progress and adjust training protocols accordingly.
- Provide hands-on instruction and supervision during strength training sessions to ensure proper technique and safety.
- Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and sports medicine staff to develop integrated programs that address both performance enhancement and injury prevention.
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and facilities to ensure a safe and functional training environment.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research, trends, and best practices in strength and conditioning, and integrate this knowledge into program design and implementation.
- Provide support during team practices, games, and competitions as needed, including pre-game warm ups, injury prevention strategies, and post-game recovery protocols.
- Mentor undergraduate interns and assist with their professional development in the field of strength and conditioning.
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements
- Earned Bachelor’s degree — Exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field preferred
- Pursuing or have acquired certifications from recognized strength and conditioning organization (e.g., CSCS, NSCA-CPT, NASM, USAW).
- Previous experience working in a collegiate or professional strength and conditioning program, either as an intern or assistant.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with athletes, coaches, and other staff members.
- CPR/AED certification
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the training and competition schedules of our athletic teams.
