Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Philanthropic Outreach Specialist is a vital member of the Office of Advancement and is primarily responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and businesses in support of the mission and priorities of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Tasks related to the Wesleyan Fund, athletic fundraising, and on- and off-campus special events are also included.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Research foundation and corporate funding prospects; identify, write (or facilitate) and submit proposals in response to current and future institutionally-defined priorities, needs, programs, and initiatives.

● Serve as a liaison to the local community to promote the College, as requested by the Vice President.
This may include, but not be limited to, participation with entities such as Create Buckhannon and Rotary or other civic organization meetings.

● Provide appropriate stewardship and follow-up for successful grant awards, including the creation of a process to track submitted proposals with guidelines, mid-term and final reports needed, and renewal deadlines.

● Proactively develop foundation and corporate prospects as an active participant in the departmental
Moves management committee.

● Working collaboratively with the Associate Vice President for External Affairs, provide oversight as
needed for administration and management of larger grant awards.

● Assist the Vice President in creating one-page individualized concept papers for donor cultivation and
solicitation.

● Serve as the primary lead in designing and implementing an annual Area Business Campaign to benefit the Wesleyan Fund.

● Maintain a portfolio of Wesleyan Fund prospects and donors to ensure annual gifts are made to WVWC.

● Provide support and work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Philanthropic Events and Research to host the annual Bobcat Fair in conjunction with Orientation Weekend for new students and their families.

● Serve as a liaison to the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics to provide assistance for athletic
fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to, special events such as golf outings, galas, hall of fame
banquets, and more.

● Attend and fully participate in departmental special events including Homecoming and Commencement,
as well as alumni, donor, and campaign events, as needed.

● Maintain active participation in campus activities that increase personal knowledge of subjects/projects/programs appropriate for foundation and/or local corporate support.

● Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the College, including mission, vision, history, and
current fundraising and friend-raising priorities ensuring effective representation of all opportunities
and priorities for philanthropic support of the College.

● Other duties as assigned and requested by the Vice President for Advancement.

This is a full-time, 12-month position with minimum job requirements and skills to include, but not be limited to:

• Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities outlined above;
• proactive with ability to meet firm deadlines;
• articulate with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
• thorough knowledge and use of personal computers and related software applications, including ability to accurately enter data into a database and submit proposals through online platforms;
• ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and diverse communities; and,
• ability to travel and work flexible hours.
