What is the Center for Addiction and Trauma?

The West Virginia Wesleyan College Center for Trauma and Addiction (WVWC CAT) is a hub for ideas and innovation, bringing together thought leaders, practitioners, and scholars from across the state to reimagine how we respond to trauma and substance use in our communities.
Launching with an inaugural Summer Institute, WVWC CAT will offer an environment for cross-disciplinary dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and honest conversation, paired with cutting-edge virtual simulation training. Participants will engage in interactive role-play scenarios drawn from real-world court-appointed special advocate work, followed by facilitated debrief and discussion with trained counselor educators, turning insight into concrete, skills-based practice. Through ongoing institutes, roundtables, and publications, the Center will position West Virginia Wesleyan College as a catalyst for statewide partnerships that elevate best practices, influence policy, and nurture a new generation of servant leaders.
